1.I enjoyed Christian Ruhm's work. I think he took a scattered panoramic of these photos. I think it would be neat if he took a photo of the empire state building like this.

Jostens Photo Contest Favorite Photo
I chose a photo off of this contest that was a picture of a girl highly involved with dropping paint onto a covered speaker. It was called "Drop The Bass" by Mary White. I chose this photo because of the concentration on the students face and the excellent focus on the paint flying from the speaker. In the photo, there is an excellent use of ht e rule of thirds present, as well as lines coming from the paint flying up from the speaker.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics
When the lighting is off, the government is in trouble, or you just can't cover up that pimple, photo manipulation through programs like Adobe Photoshop is always helpful. Sometimes though, its not the right thing to do. In the passage our class read on Global journalist they spoke about how photoshop can fullfill any man's sexist needs, or any bombings dramatic touch with a woman used in photos before.
This type of editing is unethical due to the pure thought of basic human rights. Women may be allowed to be part of governments, that lady did not give you permission to use her photo, and that man, no matter if you like him or not, was in that photo.
This photo of Oprah's head pasted onto Ann Margaret's body was highly unethical to be because it showed the high amount of boy shaming photographers (especially for magazines and celebrities) had in the 1980's.
This manipulated photo of Bill Clinton and Fidel Castro may be phony,
but these two actually did meet up at a UN meeting in New York. There were no photographers present. I don't find this photo unethical.

National Geographic
This is a photo taken in Death Valley. It's my favorite out of the top 45 because of the cool purple blending with the warm pinks, and the center focus of the lightning across the long plain. The photo has a lovely palette of colors and is something I'd wish to experience in real life.
If I were to enter a photo into this National Geographic contest, I'd go into the mountains of mid/northern california and capture the fog over the layers of redwoods in a dense forest.
Touching Strangers
Touching Strangers…
1. I thought this project was innovative and creative way to come in touch with humanity and friendship, what humans are capable of; Platonic Love.
2. If someone approached me with an offer to take part in this, I'd more than likely agree. I think it is friendly and in no way creepy or harmful.
3. I think it would be exciting to go and have a whimsical photo shoot where you are sitting on things. Anything. Lockers, lunch tables, apples, anything.
4. I thought the photography was fantastic. Seeing these photos and having people comfortable with physical contact of others made me relatively comfortable with being around strangers, as well.
Top 40 Photos
Marc Riboud - 1967
I chose this photo because of the desperation of peace thrived for in the vietnam war portrayed in the photo. I loved how from his view you can see both the soldiers and the girl's facial expressions. I think this made the top 40 photos because it shows the two sides of this decade, the war and the peace, and how one confronts the other.
William Anders - 1968
This photo was selected by myself because of the vast and void like composition. His whole view of space is enormous, and our world is put into reality. I believe this made the top 40 photos because it shows how much we have yet to explore, and it shows our lives from a new perspective.
Vanderlei Almeida - 2011
I selected this photo because it struck a really hard emotional chord for my love of dogs, this one is by the grave of his owner. The photographers composition shows multiple graves dug in the back, and it shows the devastating effects of the landslides in Rio de Janeiro. This photo made the top 40 to probably to raise awareness of Landslides in Brazil.
Warm Up
1. I found this idea to be intimidating and intriguing, comical as well.
2. Immediately I realized I was looking at upside down faces, but reading the article helped me understand that I wasn't seeing things.
3. Maybe sometime this year I will get to work in a group to create a photo set as unique and whimsical as this.

- The "Camera Obscura" effect is latin for "dark room". It is achieved by a small hole created in one wall that acts like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark room.
- During the 17th century, Sir Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens finally understood optics and how to make a high quality glass lens.
- in 1827 Joseph Nicephore Niepce added film to make the first successful photograph.
- Modern cameras still have light passing through the lens and into the camera like the olden days.
- Instead of old plastic film, now digital cameras use digital film ( a sensor called a CCD).
- The difference between auto mode and program mode is that in program mode you can control the flash, as you cannot in auto.
- Portrait mode is an attempt to blur out the background by using high f-stop settings.
- Sports mode is used to freeze fast motions by using the highest shutter speed possible.
- The half press is important because it auto focuses your subject.
- The circled arrow means flash is disabled. You would use this outdoors.
- The arrow with an auto means auto flash. You would use this in a darker setting such as outdoors at night.
- If there is too much light in a photo, the subject will be washed out.
- If there isn't enough light, then it will be too dark.
- A stop is a measurement of light: the more light.
- it would be 1 times brighter.
- it would be two times brighter.
- A longer shutter speed has more light.
- a shorter shutter speed has less light.
- Brightness is reduced when light goes through an aperture.
- A larger aperture opening gives off more light.
My First Photos
Kendall
One of my best photos taken is of my partner Kendall. I believe this was one of my best photos because of the gorgeous natural lighting, and Kendall's expression of slight embarrassment. She wasn't sure how to pose, and that of course made the perfect facial expression and I think its lovely and looks great in the lighting.
Arianna
Backlit
Here we have Kendall posing by a window in the hallway with vines, what I thought was going to have a gorgeous outcome, until the sun came out. Kendall was horrendously backlit. The dark, well, everything makes this one of my worst photos taken.
